Caecilius at the market (Ed Brightman)

As Caecilius awoke from his humble bed on he looked down from his lodgings from the Palatine hill. he felt the warm glow of the sun on his tanned skin. He was a common slave but one of his masters favourites. His first duty for the day was to collect more wine from the market. As he set off he took in the glory of Rome. On his way to the market he passed the Basilica Sempronia. This was a place he knew well as it was where his master worked as a judge. The Basilica Sempronia was located on the left side of the Roman Forum so the sun was just rising behind it creating a vast shadow across the many busy folk. Caecilius saw important and serious looking men having a somewhat heated conversation outside the front of the building. As he continued towards the market he saw a speech in progress at the Comitium. A large crowd gathered so he bustled his way through. As he reached the market he searched for the man who sold his masters favourite wine. He saw the Tiber glistening in the early morning sun. The market was very busy with tradesmen up since the crack of dawn busily trying to sell their goods to onlookers. Caecilius ignored them and went to see his man who had set up his stall just outside of the Horrea. After paying his usual fee (Caecilius was a regular due to his master’s love of wine) he made his way back to the house with the sun now getting quite warm. He was getting ready for another busy day.
