Assignment two
It was the night before Acestes, a common slave whom had been bough by his master to fight, escapes from his master’s palace. That night Acestes was planning his escape. How he would get down to the Roman Forum and then the market, where Acanthus, friend of his will be waiting for him to help him escape. Acestes knew that the best time to escape would be right before dawn and decides to get some rest before his journey to freedom.
The time had come for him to escape. Two hours before the sun rose, Acestes escapes from the palace, which was located on the Palatine Hill. He then gets to the road, which will take him down the Palatine hill and down to the Velia. As he descends down to the Velia, from far away he can see the Coliseum and remembers all the fights he once had in there. All the victories he had and the roar of the people asking for the there to be blood shed. As He continued on, he finally makes it to the Roman forum. The first thing that catches his eyes is the Vesta, Aedes, the temple of the goddess Vesta. Next to it was the Regia, a shrine sometimes called the horn of the King. Beyond this, Acestes sees the Forum, in between both the basilica Aemilia and basilica Lulia. After admiring the Forum and its surrounding he hurried on past it and made it to the market where he met up with Acanthus. Acanthus then gave him a set of robes and sandals for him to wear to help him on the rest of his journey to the port and as far away from Rome as possible. Year’s later; Acestes dies after successfully achieving freedom and having a family of his own.
