THE PLAY AND ITS
SIGNIFICANCE
It was a gorgeous day.
The sun was shining down on the city of Rome with the most glorious
aroma of love and happiness. Today was
the day of the very famous comedy play in the Theatre of Pompey and you could
feel the great atmosphere from the top of the Palestine Hill. These public plays were the most praised and
celebrated events of the year. Because
they were free for the public and were one of the best forms of entertainment
besides the games of the festivals, the whole city would hurry to the theatre
and socialize with all the people they rarely have time to visit. Plays happened to be Gaiua’s favorite event
to attend for many reasons. This
happened to be one of the rare times that she could be around her love, Maximus
without causing much attention. Because the
plays allowed slaves to attend, Maximus was ecstatic to be in the same area as
his gorgeous and intelligent equestrian love, Gaiua. In fact, all of the actors in these comedic
plays were slaves and some were well known around the state. Among being with Maximus, Gaiua highly
enjoyed the plays and their comedic structure.
The Vespillo family was in their hut on the Palestine Hill when Gaiua’s
respected father Publius noticed how well dressed she was. Publius was an intelligent wealthy man and
loved his daughter very much but he was well aware that all the men on Rome
adored and desired his lovely daughter.
Noticing her extra white toga, her fancy gold pins in her hair and well
laced sandals he ordered that his most trusted and favorite slave, Maximus,
accompany her to the play and protect her from all the gawking men because
Publius planned on attending the play with his good friend Cicero and Senator
Lucius after they finished business. Little
did he know that the only man she cared about was Maximus. Maximus was extremely grateful for every
moment he could be with his love. He
walked her to the Theatre of Pompey and together they basked in each other’s presence. They sat side by side on the stone seats
facing the wide stage. The slave actors
were still setting up the few props they had and the crowd was hectic; there
was thousands of people there getting ready to enjoy the mime comedic
plays. Gaiua had spent quite some time
explaining to Maximus how she thought it was unprofessional how the writers
would steal their ideas for plays from the Greeks. Gaiua was extremely intelligent and carefully
thought out and dissected many things, which Maximus loved hearing about. Maximus and Gaiua were enjoying their time
together to highest degree and they didn’t notice how close they had become
until his arm was around her back and hers ended across his side and they faced
each other. Gaiua stopped talking and
took both sides of his perfectly structured face and leaned in closer to his
face until their noses touched lightly and Maximus slowly pressed his lips to
hers and moved in a synchronized fashion.
They both had become too intrigued in each other’s atmosphere and were
blinded in love that they forgot they were in public until it happened. Lucius quickly grabbed Maximus by his arm and
pushed him away from Gaiua as he raged with anger. Publius and Cicero ran up to Lucius and were
shocked as well and furious to find the family slave and the beautiful and
wealthy equestrian kissing…
