On
the 15th day of March the plotters of Caesar’s death organized a
match of gladiators at the theatre of Pompey. Decius Brutus provided the
gladiators in the event their services were required. The great hall of
Quadriportico’s theatre was the place where they hang around. Mark Antony had
learnt about the conspiracy the night before the actual events form a Servilius
Casca. After getting the information, he had gone to lead Caesar thorough the
steps of meeting. Nevertheless, the conspirators intercepted Caesar as he was
transiting the Pompey theatre and subsequently directed him to an area
adjoining the eastern entrance.
Antony
did not reach in time to assist Caesar but had he arrived in time while the
murder was just about to happen, he would have rescued the dictator. He had a
formidable experience having fought the Gallic forces as skilled veteran in the
13th legion despite the fact that he was much youthful than a good
number of the senators.
As
Caesar got to the senate Tillius Cimber, handed him with an appeal to
reevaluate and recall his brother who had been excelled. The rest of the
schemers swarmed around in the pretence of offering their support. Caesar
dismissed him but Cimber got hold of Caesar’s shoulders and tore
down his tunic. “Why,
this is violence?”
Caesar asked. Subsequently, Casca drew his dagger and thrust it at the neck of
the dictator. Caesar turned swiftly and took hold of Casca by the hand and
uttered, “Casca,
you villain, what are you doing?” Casca, terrified, yelled “Help brother!” Consequently, the
whole faction, plus Brutus, kept striking Caesar. The dictator attempted to run
away but he fell. The connivers kept on attacking the dictator as he lay
vulnerable at the steps of the entrance.
