William Watson
Gauis woke
up in the morning feeling more refreshed than he had felt in a long time. He
had just set up his own little shop and for the first time was working day and
night simply to keep up with everything that he had to do. It was beginning to
take his toll. However today he would not think of work at all. He had closed
the shop for today, and was going to take the entire day to enjoy himself and
relax. He already had planned everything out: first he would visit the circuses
to watch his blue charioteers race, and hope that they destroyed the red. After
the circus he would get enjoy a midday meal of venison, bread, cheese, and wine
at his favorite tavern. Next would be the amphitheater, where he would check
the schedule to see if he would be interested in any gladiator fights today. He
would probably go regardless of who was fighting. Gauis judged that it would
most likely be about afternoon now, and he planned to spend at least two hours
soaking his stress and troubles away at his favorite public bath by the
amphitheater. He could not remember the last time that he had enjoyed the full
cycle of calidarium, then trepidarium, then frigidarium, and he looked forward
to it greatly. After he was relieved and clean, it would be time for him to visit
the theaters. This was the part of the day that he most looked forward to, as
he had always been a lover of plays, but the recent work schedule had prevented
him from watching one. Perhaps he would watch a comedy. That would be a fitting
end to the day. Yes, definitely a comedy.
After the
play it would be well into the night, and he did not have anything planned as
of yet. Perhaps he would simply return home and enjoy a nice dinner, or he
might stay out awhile and return to the tavern where he had his lunch. He would
enjoy playing dice or some other game with friendly company and laughing the
night away. And then after that he might even visit a brothel that he had
enjoyed in his younger days. Ahh, now that was an attractive sounding prospect.
Well, he
thought to himself, time to get out of bed. Carpe diem, as they say. With a
smile on his face and cheerful expectation on his mind, Gauis readied himself
for the day.
