7 : Leisure time
The boat slowly sailed across the Adriatic sea
on route to Greece, Triarius was headed to Athens as he had gotten word that
there was a possibility his wife, Adela, was presently in Athens. As the sun set over the Mediterranean sea
exposing a beautiful array of dramatic purples, pinks, and oranges in the sky,
Triarius could only think about how his life had gone from such an easy going
favorable life to what it was now, a hectic mess. In particular he was reminded of all the wonderful
things that he would do for entertainment in Rome. One memory was especially prominent; it took
place on September 10th during the Lundi Romani.
It was a warm September day and everything was
going well, the Lundi Romani had been successful so far and Triarius’s family was
excited to head out to the Circus Maximus to see chariot races, but first they
had to walk to the temple of Jupiter the best and greatest where a sacrifice
was going to be made to start the day.
Soon Triarius and his family found themselves in front of the temple
watching a lamb getting sacrificed in front of a crowd of thousands of fellow
roman citizens, and just like that the sacrifice was done and the day was ready
to begin. The family hurried down from Capitoline
hill, where the offering to Jupiter just took place, to the Circus Maximus
because a big chariot race was going to begin soon. As they made their way to the wooden seats
the crowd began to roar with anticipation; the chariots were approaching the
starting line. Finally the cloth was
waved and the chariots were off, blazing around the rounded rectangular amphitheater,
the race was a close one from start to finish with chariot team number 1 narrowly
beating out team number 3. As the crowd
of around 250,000 happy roman citizens left the Circus Maximus, Triarius slowly
waddled among the crowd, cramped together shoulder to shoulder with other
citizens and wife at his side, he was thoroughly happy; he could not ask for
anything better.
As the sun finally set over the distant
coastline, Triarius let out a tear; that was the first time he had taken his
wife out on a date. He missed the life
that he had in Rome before his life got flipped upside down. Adela was the love of his life, and nothing
will stop him from finding her.
