It is 45BCE and it is Alicia’s son first birthday. Lucius is also very excited and he has been planning a small but special party the entire week. Lucius feels as he has taken the role of father for the child. Alicia thanks the Gods everyday for having put this wonderful man in her life. She is also very thankful that her son has the chance of having a male model in his life. Titus Pomponius Atticus has told Alicia that he would pay a visit to her son’s birthday. Alicia replied by saying that she would be honored to have him over. Atticus’s friend (the mysterious senator) and real father of Alicia’ son hears about the party through his friend. The mysterious senator is sorrow about the fact he cannot make an appearance to the party to see his own son. The senator has been having a difficult year because his wife died a couple of months earlier. A few weeks after her death, the senator had contacted Alicia to talk about the two of them starting a life together now that his wife was no longer present. Alicia refuses and tells him that she has made up her mind about marrying Lucius. However, she agrees to let him be part of their son’s life as he grows up. The senator is despaired by her decision but also supportive.
The week before the party, Alicia informs Lucius about her conversation with the senator. Lucius is happy as well as relieved about her decision because he feared that she might have chose the senator once his wife was no longer in the picture. Lucius also agrees with Alicia about allowing the senator to be involved in her son’s life. Alicia has also agreed to allow the senator to help her with monthly expenses as a form of child support even though Lucius and her were financially stable. The senator also offers Alicia a larger house in the Palantine Hill considering he is very wealthy and own several house in the area. However, even though Alicia thanks him for the gesture, she refuses his offer by claiming they are fine where they are.
