Assignment 7
The noise in the circus is tremendous;
the crowd is on its feet as they wait in anticipation as the chariots round the
lap one more time. Felix, a plebe, has taken the day off from working his food
market to attend the festivals for Jupiter. Felix has dressed for the occasion,
showing his appreciation to Jupiter. Felix made sure he bathed and put on his
finest Toga for the festivities.
The
festival is taking place in the Circus Maximus. Before the chariot races, there
was a procession that took place through the grand entrance of the Circus
Maximus and around the lap. Felix always made it a point to attend the
celebration of Jupiter since it brought the finest parade. The Pompu included the
finest statues of Jupiter and fellow deities, musicians, satyrs, incense bearers,
and vessel bearers. The greatest part of the parade was being able to see
emperor.
As the
chariots circle the last bend, Felix is on his feet screaming for his favorite
ride, Antoniou. Antoniou is in the blue chariot as he is barely beating his
greatest competitor Decimus. As they get towards the end, Felix has never heard
the crowd roar so loud. At the very end, Decimus passes Antoniou to win it, and
Felix becomes devastated. There is not much time for sorrow, Felix lost his bet
on the race, but now it is time to feast on the lavish meal the Magistrates have
gathered for the public.
Everyone
in the Circus Maximus leaves the wooden benched stadium and heads to Capitoline
Hill to attend a ceremony for Jupiter and the other deities. Felix is full of excitement
from the Chariot races and the upcoming religious ritual that is going to take
place at Jupiter’s Temple. Felix follows the crowd through the Forum up to
Capitoline Hill where everyone celebrates Jupiter and feasts for his greatness.
