Augustus could not begin to figure out why the
week had been so loaded with work. He wanted to rest and relax so badly, but he
had no idea of what to do. His friends had been discussing going to have vapor
baths and could baths at Catullus joint. But rumors had it that joint was
encouraging people to get involved in bad habits. It was said that women had
began to go to that place and caused trouble. So there was an order for it to
be shut down if it was not left to men only. Women would be allowed at their own
time when men were not around. There are other ways they could choose to enjoy
themselves like ball games, watching athletics and horse riding among others,
but he could not bring himself to accept them. He was in the mood for doing a
different thing for fun this time round. Augustus could not wait for his
friends to show up. However, he remembered the circus that was happening that
afternoon. Circus was the best way Romans enjoyed their free time. People would
make sure they do not miss it for anything in the world. Neither would Augustus
and his friends or so he thought. Soon his friends arrived, and they debated on
the best way to go and enjoy themselves. They settled for the terms of Catullus
where they would enjoy having baths and music. The slaves would be all over the
place serving the customers. They chose to go there because it was cheap and
they would have a more peaceful time after a week’s hard work. After all,
Augustus knew that circus would never change, and it will always be a place
they can go anytime they wanted.
