Assignment #7

“The festival is tomorrow! The festival is tomorrow!” Spuria exclaimed as she skipped around the house. She had been counting down the days till the festival finally arrived and could hardly contain her excitement. Clodia and Terentia, although quiet, were excited as well. Everyone in town looked forward to the festivals, days filled with sacrifice and various forms of entertainment.

“I can’t wait to watch the plays! The horse racing! The parades!” Spuria said excitedly.
“Come on now dear Spuria, you need to get some rest before an eventful day at the festival tomorrow, you don’t want to miss the procession in the morning.” Clodia said as she walked Spuria to her room.

The next morning Spuria woke up before anyone else in the house, she was so excited to go to the festival she could hardly sleep. Spuria, Clodia and Terentia made sure to wear a hint of red in order to support their favorite chariot team. As they walked down Palatine Hill they could see all the people rushing to make sure they could get a clear view of the procession.  When they arrived they pushed their way into the crowd in order to get Spuria a spot in front where she could easily see everything. The crowd started cheering with excitement as they saw the Magistrate leading the procession. Closely behind were the chariot racers, followed my musicians and dancers. The crowd cheered for each racer as they passed on horseback.

As the procession ended, people began to span out as the games and theater performances began. Spuria began to make her way into the crowd. Clodia stopped her. Spuria was walking to wrong way; she was headed towards the mimes. Clodia did not allow Spuria to watch mimes for there was a lot of nudity and violence portrayed. Spuria was far too young to watch such violent and obscene acting. She grabbed Spuria’s hand and rushed her to the theater where they would watch their first play of the day.
