The
time had come where Titus had to make a decision on whether to listen to his
father and stay in Rome or to join the military and leave to fight for Rome.
Titus knew that if he did leave then he might not have anything to come back to
since his father might disown him. His father, Claudius, despises Caesar and
does not want his son to go and fight for this Dictator. This was the opposite
of Titus; he really respects Caesar and would love to fight under him. Titus
has made up his mind and decided that it will join the military and leave his
home. Once he decided this he went to look for his father to tell him of his
decision. Titus went to the lounging room in his house because that’s where his
father spent most of his time. When he saw his father his stomach began to turn
but he knew what he must do. Titus went to his father and “Father there is
something I must tell you”. His father looked at Titus and replied with “ what
is it son”. Titus began to feel sick since he did not want to disappoint his
father but he knew what he had to do, he “Father I have decided that I want to
join the military and fight for Rome. I know my place is not here in the city
tending to the estate. I hope you understand where I am coming from”. At this
moment his father rose from his seat and look deeply at Titus. After a moment
of silence he responded with “You know how I feel about Caesar and what he
does, but yet you would still decide to leave and fight for the military”. At this
moment Titus knew he disappointed his father and was on the edge of disownment.
However his father continued with “You are my only son and all though I may not
agree with what you have chosen to do, I will always love you no matter what. I
want you do to with your live what you want and if it is this then I
understand”. After hearing this Titus was so relieved that his father
understand and respects his decision. The only thing that Titus could say was
“Thank you”.
