Assignment 4 - Character description

Jeremy Herman
2/2/12
Assignement 4
He was a tall bulky man, who carried a great deal of pride on his shoulders; one could easily tell he was a man of importance and wealth.  Life had been good to Servius, however one could tell that the stress of his work had taken a toll on him; his face was no longer that of a young man who was still ripe with curiosity, rather you could see by the grimace on his face that he had seen a lot, and by the wrinkles on his forehead that he had experienced many a days of stress.  By the way he presented himself you could tell that he was of the senatorial class; wearing a toga praetexta to represent his position as a roman magistrate and his calceus senātōrius, when he talked to people he was taken very seriously.  All of this was unimportant at the moment however as he was being questioned by the roman army about the mysterious disappearance of his wife and the death of his son.
“And your wife Antonius, what did she look like?” asked the guard.  His wife Clodia was everything that he could have ever wanted in a woman, she was stunningly beautiful with long brown hair and green eyes, tall and bodacious, every man would give her a glimpse as she walked down the Via Sacra.  Clodia became his wife at the age of 12 through an arranged marriage, and now was about 19 years old.  She was a stay at home wife who he did not see much of throughout the average days as Servius was often at work in the Forum Romanum, and when he wasn’t, he was often buying and selling his slaves.  Clodia therefore had been growing apart from Servius, which was unknown by Servius as he was just too busy to realize their problems in the marriage.  On the night before her mysterious disappearance Clodia was wearing her tunic, stola, and her soleae, which was typical wear for her when she was around the house.
After answering there questions, the army member in charge left stating there was not much he could do and that he would need Servius’s seal of approval on some papers.  Servius went to the counter where the wax was to be found and quickly melted it and smashed his ring into it, soon after the army members were gone and Servius was left dazed and confused as to what could have happened.  He went to crack open a bottle of wine, and out of the crack of his eye he saw a white piece of paper with writing on it:
“Tonight is the night, everything is set in place. Do your part dear Clodia and we can finally be together,
Love,
B”
