Assignment 5:
Historical Details
There was a certain active and worrisome presence in the
air. Today was the day the citizens of
Rome were to vote for new officials. This
year was unique; it had been five years since the last voting of the new
Censors. The citizens were all gathered
around in the Forum discussion who to vote for as Quaestors, Aeidile and
Plebeian Tribune, and Consul and Censor this year. It was also widely rumored the Caesar would
be continuing his illegal term of Dictatorship.
Although many of the plebeians were all communicating at the commitum,
Gaiua and her family as well as others were back at her house on Palestine
Hill. Gauia was walking across her garden
when she seen Cicero and Lucius approaching.
Gauia quickly and hesitantly tried to run and hide, not wanting to
socialize with the Senator Lucius Tulius Scaevola who had a deep admiration for
her. As Gauia ran in the opposite direction she tumbled and fell and her toga
was dirtied. Both embarrassed and anxious,
Gaiua quickly stood up and faced her fear.
Cicero quickly ran to aid her and Lucius, in his higher ranking position
just watched a shook his head of disapproval.
It was then, in the mist of Gaiua’s embarrassment that her father
Publius Gaius Vespillo came to greet his longtime friend Cicero and the man who
he desired for his sin in law Lucius.
Every week Cicero and Publius would meet up and discuss any novel events
that have happened to keep Publius informed. Gaiua knew that her father would
be busy so she took these days to spend with her deprived and wonderful love Maximus
Latro, the families slave. Maximus was
always on guard, knowing the consequences of this treason. Maximus wasn’t ignorant to the consequences
of breaking his master’s rules which include death; although he was the best
slave and commonly thought of the liaison between the slaves and Mr. Vespillo
himself. Publius was Gaiua’s paternafamlia
and had already decided that his beautiful daughter Gaiua was to marry
Lucius. As Gaiua and Maximus spent their
secret time together Publius and Cicero and Lucius were in the main compartment
of their estate discussion the voting statistics. Apparently, Publius was not happy to hear
that Julius Caesar was planning on extending his Dictatorship; Publius argued
that it has gone on too long and six terms was far too much compared to the
appointed six months he was supposed to serve.
Cicero, although hesitant to state his opinion in front of Senator
Lucius agreed and compared the negative Caesar has accomplished and wished that
Caesar could be more ideal. Cicero compared
Caesars terrible un-noble tactics to the wonderful tactics of Cincinnatus. He wanted, if a dictator was necessary during
these war times, a dictator who put the states and the people’s needs
first. Lucius subtly ended their
conversation by saying that he and the many other Senators already have devised
a plan to stop Julius Caesar and Marcus Brutus was a key factor in this plan…
