Historical Post

In the year 45 BCE Caesar had just defeated Pompey and his sons. Word of this had spread all through out Rome and it had officially put an end to the Roman civil war. Caesar had returned to Rome from his triumph in Africa, when he returned to Rome he appoints himself Dictator for life. All the Romans have heard of these events of Caesar, some siding with him and some siding against him. Titus Marcus Cassius was one of the Romans that sided with Caesar. He admires every aspect of Caesar, his bravery, persistence, and overall strength. These are some of the main reasons why Titus wants to leave his family and home and join the Roman military; he wants to be as strong as Caesar. However his parents mostly his father, Claudius Marcus Cassius, do not want him to leave and fight. Even though it is customarily appropriate for Roman men to join the army, his father does not want him to fight under Caesar. His father, a former Roman senator, is truly against Caesar and how he goes about things. When Caesar returned from Africa after defeating Pompey’s sons and then celebrates the triumph over fellow Romans, this was one of the last straws for Claudius he would never allow his only son to join the army and fight for Caesar. However Titus did not see it this way, at one point in time there was going to be a struggle for power in Rome and could cause a civil war. Caesar fought for what he believed in and his men fought right by his side because he was always loyal to them. This is was Titus wants, to be part of this comradery that Caesar and all the soldiers have with each other. Titus knows that risks he brings upon himself if he does decide to join the military. He knows his father might disown him for disobeying him and he knows how dangerous the military is itself, but right now these do not worry him as much as they should.
