Assignment #4

As a centurion in the army, Decimus had seen many soldiers die honorably in Caesar’s Civil War. He was a supporter of Caesar and did not agree with the Optimates that followed Pompey. Decimus feared the conspiracy’s against Caesar and knew that many people were opposed to his policies and supported the more conservative opponent, Pompey. However, once Caesar termed himself dictator Decimus began to worry that Rome would not be as powerful as it could be with a democratic society.
Decimus decided to write to Caesar to give him his opinion on what he thought would be the best political situation for Rome. He had befriended Caesar in the war and was a loyal friend to him and supporter. Decimus was simply trying to help Caesar as he had heard rumors of unrest and knew of Pompey and his radical supporters. However, knowing people close to Caesar, Decimus had heard he was unhappy with his opinions and had thought he was part of Pompey’s group.
Fearing a vengeance from Caesar due to the misunderstanding and knowing the of his recent paranoia, Decimus packed up with his family and left for his vacation home out of the city. It wasn’t until a couple days after it had happened did Decimus find out what had happened on the Ides of March. Decimus was at first scared of the repercussions knowing he was a supporter but he decided it would be safe knowing of the political unrest and that he would be the last threat to the knew republic.
