Daily life in Ancient Rome
It was an exciting day for the whole household. The niece of Titus was getting married and the wedding was keenly anticipated. Titus himself was busy with his duties in the Senate but the wedding was very important to him. His niece just 15 was to marry a fellow Senate member and hence the political implications of the wedding were very important. Due to the death of her Titus’s brother many years ago Titus had assumed authority over his niece and that is why the wedding was to take place at his house.
The wedding less than a week and therefore Caecilius had been entrusted with the task of making sure the wedding was prepared for. Today he was to accompany the bride and her mother as they went to the tailor to finalise the wedding dress. They were going to the forum Boarium as the dress was arriving from overseas today. Caecilius also had other business that needed doing at the forum such as getting supplies for the wedding. There was going to be well over 100 guests so fine wine was going to be needed in large supply. In addition to this decorations and all sorts of other things were required so Caecilius had a lot to do. His first job was to meet with the wife to be and her mother and accompany them safely to the forum Boarium. They lived just 5 minutes away on top of the Palatine hill.
Caecilius met with them and escorted them safely to their fitting with the tailor. Once this was done he went to find the wine traider he normally visited and made the unusually large order and specified that it must be delivered within the week or this would be the last time they did business. In the now hot midday Sun Caecilius went on with the rest of his errands in preparation for the wedding.
