The Morning of Lupercalia

Michael opinion
With having trouble to sleep all night, Decimus was early to rise.As the glowing sun slowly rises above the Tiber River, it is a cold morning but the dew seems to be drying up very quickly to primer this beautiful day that awaits. Excitement flooded through his veins while today was February 15, the day of Lupercalia. Decimus looks back on memories through out the past year as Lupercalia is the cleansing festival of Rome. Lupercalia holds feasts and rituals that were believed to wash away evil spirits and let new and healthy spirits bless and help with fertility. Decimus was quite excited to feast on goat, as that goat was one of his favorite dishes. He then thought about the men running in goat skin and how much he laughs when he sees them. As he thanks Fortuna for his luck and success, he remembers to also thank Lupercus who is the God of shepards. As he wobbles out of bed he wakes his wife Julia.
Julia as she wakes, stretches and proceeds to comfort Decimus for not getting enough sleep. As Julia wakes with eyes wide open, she hopes that today will help the fertility probelms that Decimus and Julia have been facing. As they both rise from bed, they take a look outside their window and see their slaves working early. They look at each other and smile, as it was unusual to see their slaves awake early in the morning. As Decimus holds Julia in his arms, he whispers, “Today all of our troubles will be suppressed, our fears gone. Today is Lupercalia and we shall start new.” Julia looks up and smiles at Decimus as they proceed to walk down their stairs and off to feasting.
