Assignment #5
As the years of the civil war had taken a toll on Ancient Rome, every citizen still had hope and dreamed of the day the war would end. Everyone just wanted the war to end and finally have a leader. On a summer morning before the sun rays began to heat up the ground on which all Romans walked on, Quintus, a great and well known senate in Rome decided to travel down to the marketplace. One of his well-trusted slaves went along with him for protection. This was Titus, enormous in stature, strong and very skilled with both swords and his own two hands as well. As they were getting ready to walk down to the market place, they heard people screaming. At first it seemed like it was as if people were screaming of pain but as both Quintus and Titus got closer to the marketplace, they realized that the screams were screams of joy and happiness. They couldn’t understand what was going on but soon, they began to see Roman soldiers. Quintus became even more confused and decided to stop one of the soldiers and ask him what was the meaning of their presence in Rome. The soldier told Quintus about what had happened in Africa the year before and went on to say that the Civil war was finally over. That Caesar had finally defeated Pompey. Quintus couldn’t believe what he was hearing because from what he had known, Caesars army was greatly outnumbered by Pompey’s army. The soldier told him that was he was saying was true but that Caesar, though he had a small army, was able to show great leadership and that’s what leads to his victory. Quintus was speechless but filled with happiness. So much so that he went back to home and sent Titus to go buy the most expensive wine he could fine at the marketplace to celebrate Caesars victory and the end of the civil war.
