It was the beginning of September and the Roman festival
celebrating Jupiter, the best and greatest, was beginning. Titus woke up early
in the morning to eat his breakfast so that he could make his was to the
festival. After he ate Titus left his home, he was very thankful today was the
festival since it gave people the day off and he didn’t have to do any of his
household duties. As he made his was down to the festival he met up with one of
his few friends, Servius. Servius was young man about the same age as Titus; he
belonged to a lower class family that did not have much. When they met up on
the way to the festival they began to talk about all of the festivities that
were going to take place on this day. The festival began with a religious
ritual dedicated to Jupiter. However Titus and Servius were looking forward to
the chariot races, this was the most exciting event of the day. Before the
chariot race Titus followed Servius to a rundown shop, Titus had a feeling
where they were going. Titus knew that Servius was a gambler and Titus knew
that they were going to a bookie to take bets on the chariot race. When they
arrived Servius asked Titus if he wanted to split a bet and then they would
split the winnings. Titus had never placed a bet before on these races so he
decided that he would split it with Servius.
They ended up paying the bookie and
then made their way back to the race to get good seats so they would be able to
watch their racer. When the race started Titus stomach began to turn jut
watching his racer and knowing he had money on him. As the race began to come
to the end Servius and Titus began to get nervous that their racer might not
win. It was a close race and it was on the last lap and their racer was neck
and neck with another racer in the lead. As they were closing in on the finish
line their racer pulled ahead by inches and ended up winning. As he won
incredible joy and excitement came over both Titus and Servius. They then left
and went back to the bookie that was upset but paid them and it was a
significant amount of money, which they split. After they were paid they left
the bookies and decided to go get food and continue on with the celebration of
the festival.
